  1. 4.5 / 5
    • The good:
Superior image quality, Good build and design, Impressive processor and operating system, complete set of connectivity options
    • The bad:
Stiff dedicated camera key, Disappointing browser interface
Nokia N8 is an excellent addition to the brand’s line of smartphones with impressive features and good design. At first glance, it may have the impression of being too bulky but in reality, it is manageable on the hand. With a weight of 135g, it does have a sturdy built. The choice of materials was well thought of. The phone is also available in a variety of colors, with green and orange which are not on the usual smartphone color menu.

The N8’s 3.5” AMOLED display makes it an eye candy even under direct sunlight. Having the regular screen resolution, image quality is still nice on screen. Also, it is good that the touchscreen is highly sensitive. It surprising however that there are no hardware call keys which were taken as staple when it comes to Nokia smartphones. It is quite a disappointment too since it tends to confuse the users who would find it hard to get used to the positioning of these keys in the interface.

The top side of Nokia N8 houses the power key, the 3.5mm audio jack and the HDMI port. The HDMI port deserves commending for it supports 720p TV-out, an impressive feature which makes this phone a perfect choice for those who are in for an excellent entertainment experience. On the left side of the handheld, you will find microSD and SIM card slots and microUSB port while on the right side, you will find the volume rocker and screen lock slider. The thought of putting a dedicated camera key at the right side of the phone is also nice but it still needs improvement because the key is quite stiff so using it could make captured images blurry.

The phone’s interface would speak for how impressive the operating system works. Nokia N8 is actually the pioneer of Symbian^3 which still has a lot to improve on but is already good in itself. Three panes for customization of widgets are made available. The RAM is not much but the phone could handle several apps running. Doing tasks is also fast.

Nokia N8’s phonebook is a good combination of organized design, nice social network integration and impressive storage capacity. Quality and reception of calls is superb and it also offers smart dialing. Messaging works well for attachments and conversations. The phone got everything a user could ask for in matters of phonebook and messaging. However, the virtual keyboard tends to be annoying since it has no multitouch support and has an unfriendly interface.

The phone is one of the best smartphones in terms of camera capabilities in the market. It is the perfect deal for snappers with its 12mp, mechanical shutter, xenon flash, 28mm wide-angle lens, among others. All the basic functions are included with additional settings for a better camera experience. The interface might be stressful but image quality is superior. With a 720p at 25 frames per second video capability, the same impression goes for motion pictures too.

A complete set of connectivity options is within reach but the browser is quite a disappointment for this kind of phone. Accomplishing minute tasks such as entering a Web address is tedious. The browser supports Flash content however.

This is defenitely the best phone I have ever owned. The camera is perfect and capture video is perfect. I can play on the tv through the HDMI cable supplied. I can use it as a wifi for my laptop and a mp3 player for the car through the Play via radio function. Can upload everything to the computer an back it up can access internet. Can upload from any usb device with cable supplied. And also voice guided navigation while driving. This phone is just awesome!! Beats the iphone for sure.
