NetComm NP206 Review

  • 4.5 / 5
    • The good:
compact, strategic LED indicators, easy to setup
    • The bad:
large design hence sharing power points becomes a problem

The NetComm NP206 is an answer to most of the problems that you would face when you are trying to optimize your home network. Owing to the many entertainment devices that need an internet connection to unlock all features, there is a need for every home with these modern entertainment devices to have a reliable network.

The NP206 is what you need for this. Let’s have a look at some of the features that you will get from this device. The modern game consoles, smart TVs and set-top boxes that need connection to a network all have one thing in common: they need electric power to run. This is the inspiration behind the design of the NetComm NP206. It enables you to use your house’s power line as a network that connects your modem and all these devices. The best part about this device is that the device only needs a modem and a power line hence it can even be used in offices that experience network challenges.

This device works effectively in buildings made of brick walls and even multi-storied buildings without any problems. The NetComm NP206 comes in two units. The first one is the part that will be connected to the router or modem and the second one is the one that goes to the room that has the devices that need the connection. The adapter that is connected to the router comes with a power plug and since it will be in use for a long time, NetComm have included a power point pass-through on the opposite side of the plug to make sure that even after plugging in, you still have access to the power point.

The other adapter doesn’t have a pass through, but based on the convenience that it brings, very few users will complain about losing a power point. Setting up the NetComm NP206 power line kit is easy and straight-forward. You don’t need to be an expert in electrical installations or complex networking to do it. After plugging in both the adapters to a working power line, you will only need to plug one end of the provided Ethernet cable to the first adapter and the other end to your router.

From there, you can go ahead and enjoy using your broadband connection on the network using either of the two available Ethernet ports. If you need to use more than two devices, the second adapter can create a wireless hotspot that will further increase convenience while at the same time extending the connection. There are LED indicators on each of the adaptors. These indicators will show when the adaptors are on, when they are connected to each other and when there is a physical connection on the devices.

All in all, this power line kit is an effective solution to general home and small office networking problems. The only setback is seen in the design of the adaptors where some users might experience problems when using sockets with two power points and they want to use a large plug on the adjacent power point. That aside, this is a worthwhile investment.
