Surprise package - 07/16/2007

I bought them as an interim measure to run surround sound for my new 50” Plasma. After setting them up in my town house lounge and listening to them I don't think I'll need to upgrade unless I move into a house with a really big lounge. My friends have been really impressed with the sound and are blown away when I tell them the price. You would be hard pressed to find anything in home theatre under a grand that would come close to sound levels and bass response. The fact that I prefer to listen to movies through these and not my stereo (800 watt RMS through Bose 901's) says a lot about this speaker system. If you want the best sound quality use optical cable, but be aware that volume will be limited because the satellites tend to peak at medium levels (running direct from my Samsung HD). Using digital coaxial though you can crank it right up to uncomfortable levels where you can definitely feel the sound and upset the neighbours. I only found the accuracy of the bass response to be an issue with classical music (Vivaldi); they're fine with rock or blues. The lower mid-range is the only real weakness. For the price ($422)I would have to rate them overall as outstanding. Garry N
