GoPro HERO 3: Black Edition Review
If you want a distinct camera that can go places, then the GoPro HERO 3: Black Edition is the perfect choice for you. This model is 30% smaller, 25% lighter and twice more powerful than its predecessors, making it a very respectable entry in the popular series of "action cameras".
The GoPro HERO 3: Black Edition is WiFi capable and is waterproof up to 60m. It can capture vivid still of up to ultra-wide 1440p 48fps and 1080p 60 fps, and record up to 720p 120 fps video. At a speed of 30 stills per second, it definitely is a reliable snapper. Capable of shooting of up to 12 megapixels, its processing power is really impressive. Moreover, it comes with a GoPro application and a WiFi enabled remote which adds to its versatility and mobility. Underlining the fact that this model has been significantly improved there is lessened fogging in the case which is one of the most striking flaws in its predecessors. During a mountain bike trail test, its predecessor already misted after only 10 minutes but the HERO 3: Black Edition showed no sign of fogging at all.
This super compact camera is also the best company if you want to take clear underwater shots without needing to have another case specifically for diving. Since it is smaller than its predecessors, it is more mobile and will not be difficult to manage even underwater. However, its small size has taken its toll on the battery which has a relatively shorter life. Unfortunately, the GoPro HERO 3: Black Edition lack a 3.5mm mic jack and you still have to buy a separate mic adapter cable.
If you want more features and you want to maximize the capabilities of this device, then you might opt to buy the BacPac. An accessory among the many accessories for GroPro cameras, BacPac is functional and worth the money. You may also want to try controlling the WiFi using your very own WiFi enabled devices such as iPhone or iPad. Android enabled devices are in line for testing.
Quality of image is the key selling point of the GoPro HERO 3: Black Edition. The details are decent, and the images look sharp. For those who are more comfortable using auto functions, this camera knows how to deliver by taking care of the exposure and white balance for you. Once you have familiarized yourself with the functions, stills and videos can really be astounding.
