GoPro HD Motorsports HERO Review
GoPro HD Motorsports HERO is the world’s highest performance 1080p HD on board video and still photo racing camera. It’s a wearable sports camera with full 1080 pixel high definition resolution, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, a 170-degree lens, and a 5MP sensor. The GoPro Motorsports easily mounts to any helmet, motorcycle, ATV, car, plane, jet ski, boat, snowmobile or other vehicle. The camera’s quick-release mounting design makes it easy to reposition the camera around your vehicle for professional quality HD video from several angles. And it is built to take an extreme amount of abuse. One of the coolest things about the Motorsports Hero is the fact that it’s so easy to use. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to shoot amazing video with this camera, and you certainly won’t have to spend hours reading complicated instruction booklets to make this thing work. Simply turn the camera on and press the shutter button. Shooting your own high-definition action sports video really is that simple, thanks to the well thought out and extremely user-friendly default settings. Another great feature is the upgraded controls, including the brighter LED icons and louder status beeps. While these may seem like minor things, the attention to detail really makes a difference in the overall user experience. The wide angle lens (of which GoPro is famous for) is the sharpest, widest, highest performance lens currently available in any wearable camera. Whenever mounted, it’s amazing for capturing your most exciting adventures and truly produces professional-quality video that is guaranteed to turn heads. The camera’s rechargeable lithium ion battery also boasts an impressive recording time of up to 2 1/2 hours on a single charge and up to 9 hours total on a 32GB SD card. It can be conveniently charged through any USB port, and a second battery (sold separately) can be added to the back of the camera which will double the recording time to 5 hours. It comes with a storage capacity of 32GB. This camera boasts the largest storage capacity of any wearable camera and allows for a full 9 hours of high-definition video. The camera has the ability to store thousands of still photos. Also, the camera’s fully automatic professional quality sound with AGC (automatic gain control) is tuned for action sports and motorsports. The camera adjusts the sound level automatically, maintaining and optimizing sound recording to compensate for road and wind noise. While the HD Motorsports itself is a fairly neat - if not slightly crude - bit of kit, the true appeal of the GoPro line of cameras is the wide range of relatively cheap mounting accessories. Like the waterproof housing that ships with every GoPro camera. This polycarbonate shell is custom fitted to the HD Hero and seals with a strong plastic clamp. Once shut, is waterproof to 180 feet and shockproof. The Motorsports kit also ships with an assortment of flat and curved adhesive mounts for semi-permanent attachment to helmets and other surfaces, a pair of quick release buckles for connecting to the adhesive mounts, and a three-way pivoting arm for aiming and positioning, which gives users a fairly wide variety of mounting options out of the box. One notable change is the omission of the previous model's tiny optical viewfinder. This useless plastic window won't be missed. In its place, the HD Hero gains the HERO Bus, an expansion port that allows the addition of optional Bakpac units that expand the functionality of the camera. Each Bakpac will ship with a replacement door to allow it to fit within the confines of the waterproof housing. Overall, the GoPro HD Motorsports HERO camera is the most advanced and reasonably priced action sports camera on the market. This little camera captures big quality. If you are looking for the best motorcycle camera, then look no further.
