    • The good:
Ready To Go, Easy Mounting, Quick Connection, Highly Customizable Display
    • The bad:
      No Maps, Flaky Mount

The Garmin Edge 500 Bundle is a lightweight GPS-based cycling computer for performance-driven cyclists. The Edge 500 when loaded with data can track your distance, speed, location and elevation with high sensitivity GPS. Add an ANT+ compatible heart rate monitor, speed/cadence sensor or compatible power meter for a finely-tuned analysis of your ride. The Edge 500 weighs only 59 grams and measures 6.9 x 2.2 x 4.8 cm in dimension. It looks slightly bigger than a regular digital watch which is ideal for any enthusiast or professional cyclist. It uses the HotFix satellite prediction technology, which connects to a satellite and locates the user’s position faster and with higher precision.

Apart from the position, it also tracks distance, speed, climb, descend, and altitude and has a number of courses along with temperature readings, Auto Pause, and Auto Lap. The Edge 500 is also easy to attach to a bike and it is done with the help of the included quarter-turn release mount. The mount seems flaky though. Other accessories that come with the kit are AC charger, USB cable, cadence/speed sensor, heart rate monitor, Quick start manual, and CD-ROM with owner’s manual. All Edge 500 versions work with third-party ANT+-enabled power meters to display your power output in watts as you ride. This valuable data shows how hard you're working, regardless of conditions affecting your ride, so you can train smarter.

Other helpful training features include a Courses feature, which helps you compare successive rides over the same route, as well as Auto Pause, Auto Lap and temperature readings. The usability and intuitiveness of all the features is exceptional. The power analysis software is too basic, but many of the other features in the software when you download your data are pretty cool. The amount of information that is possible to display is phenomenal. Temperature, road gradient, vertical ascent rate, HR, power cadence, heading or whatever you may need. The screen of the Edge 500 is very crisp. The size is adequate for your needs. You can read data elements on the screen at a glance without any problems.

It also has a backlight that is very handy for dark mornings. The display has 3 separate screen pages that are completely customizable. You can have up to 8 different sets of information on each screen. This is very easy to do and you can even do it on the fly. For the serious or competitive cyclist the Garmin Edge 500 Bundle gives you a very lightweight and small platform to record your training or race data in the same form factor that old school bike computers have historically done for decades. The main difference is that now you get all the data that up until now have required much larger devices. The lower price point compared to other Edge and Forerunner units are also very attractive for anybody with a power meter. There are some other options, but none of them have the same feature sets for this price point.
