Fujitsu S1300i A4 Scansnap Scanner (SCA-FUJ-S1300I)
The importance of portable scanners is increasing in the current market scenario. For wireless or better quality printing the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 is a good option. The device has a weight of about 3 pounds and 11 x 3 x 4-inches in dimensions. Thus, the ScanSnap S1300 is more portable than your typical flatbed scanner; however, it is not exactly something that you would be able to carry around with you in a laptop bag. The device has the option to run off USB power, which means a laptop with two USB slots is sufficient to operate it.
It can scan more than 8 double sided papers in one minute, which makes it a very efficient and agile tool for even the most demanding office needs. Ten pages can be accommodated in the automatic document feeder, further expanding its practicality. It is also compatible in a cross platform way with Mac and standard PCs. Regarding its internal software, a single button is used to search PDF, jpeg images and other supported files. Users can create MS Word and Excel files straight out of scanned material due to the character recognition system, as well as create searchable keywords from highlighted text. Moreover, it has business card scanning support and is powered by either AC or USB cords.
Thus, as you can notice the feature of duplexing makes the device scan both sides of the page at once. This decreases the scanning time by half, and prevents you from having to scan pages twice. Moreover, you can get the most out of the document holder, which is not very large, but can handle 10 pages at once. In fact, the document holder automatically turns the scanner on when it is opened, and turns it off when it closes. The scanner can handle 8 duplexed pages per minute at Normal quality.
The scanner runs through documents quickly and accurately, and has minimum blurring of text with very good readability in the final PDF. Lighter text can be seen, but not very well under the “Recommended” setting. The “Best” or “Excellent” settings increase the dpi levels up, and ensure the lighter text such as watermarks is visible; however, this will increase the file size, and slow down the scanning process. The duplexing feature is very handly for this, because a number pages may need to be scanned. The S1300 also has a business card organizing application with built-in OCR and export functions. The software can extract the names and phone numbers and sometimes the company titlestoo from a business card without problems. However, the OCR has trouble with stylized text. Colored images from photographs and magazines, however, are not obtained in the best output, because this is a document scanner. Thus, the ScanSnap S1300 is a portable scanner, and in fact is a well put-together product with a reasonably strong and durable software suite included. It may not have the resolution or clarity of some flatbed products; however, it is quite good at scanning monochromatic documents.
