   The Epson Artisan 1430 Inkjet Printer is a 13-inch wide-format, single-function printer capable of printing borderless photos up to 13 by 19 inches in size, or banners up to 13 by 44 inches. It can print on a variety of paper types and finishes.
   
   The Artisan 1430 includes advanced color and lighting correction for amazing photos, as well as Adobe Photoshop Elements for added creativity. Photos are smudge, scratch, water and fade resistant thanks to Claria Hi-Definition Ink. And, prints last up to four times longer than photo lab prints.
   
   This printer uses 6 Claria ink tanks: black, cyan, yellow, magenta, light cyan, and light magenta, not the eight or nine inks used in the upmarket models, and while USB and 802.11n Wi-Fi are standard, it lacks an Ethernet interface. It has a print resolution of up to 5,760 by 1,440 dpi resolution and ink droplets as small as 1.5 picoliters. The printing process includes auto photo correction. According to Epson, print longevity is up to 98 years under glass and up to 200 years in dark storage such as albums.
   
   It includes two built-in 'solutions', Epson Email Print and Epson iPrint App. The former allows you to send documents for printing via email to anyone with an Epson printer, anywhere in the world from your mobile device or computer. All that's required is an email address assigned to the Email Print-enabled printer.
   
   The Epson iPrint App (available as a free download) supports wireless printing from nearby smart-phones and tablets. You can also scan and save files on your device and send them as emails or upload them to a cloud service such as Box.net, Dropbox, Evernote or Google Docs. Epson also provides links for downloading other mobile printing solutions, including Apple AirPrint (for iPhone, iPad and iPod) and Google Cloud Print for Android phones and tablets.
   
   The printer is very quiet, equal to a loud whisper and is stable when on a table. It is wide, somewhat heavy (25 lbs or 11kg), and takes up a lot of space (25" or 63cm wide).
   
   The casing is black with a silver control panel on the top front for easy access, and there’s a single, top paper feed with a sturdy telescoping backrest. The 1430 can handle paper sizes from 4×6? to 13×19?.
   
   Also included is a tray for printing CD/DVD’s with inkjet coating, and a software bundle that includes Adobe Photoshop Elements 9, Epson Print CD, and driver software. If you’ll be connecting via USB, note that no USB cable is included with the printer.
   
   Set up is a breeze and wireless networking allows you to locate the printer in a convenient out of the way location once the initial setup was complete. Note that the initial setup required a wired connection to a computer via cable but after printing a test page and verifying the connection you will be able to move the printer anywhere within the range of the wireless router.
   
   The Artisan 1430’s matte and glossy prints accurately matched the calibrated display. Prints displayed smooth gradations, accurate skin tones, wide color gamut, and lots of detail. This is due to a combination of excellent canned ICC paper profiles, ink-droplet size as small as 1.5 picoliters, and a top resolution of 5,760×1,440 dpi. On average, a full-bleed A4 print took 1 minute 45 seconds.
   
   The single problem was a persistent slight-green cast on neutral and toned black-and-white prints. This is because there’s only one black-ink cartridge, which necessitates using colored inks to fill the vacuum.
   
   Overall, the Epson Artisan 1430 is quiet to run and with relatively low power consumption, it will suit families and small offices that can benefit from its wireless and Bluetooth interfaces.
