Canon EOS 7D Review
Canon EOS 7D Canon EOS 7D, an addition to the Canon EOS line of trusted digital SLRs, boasts of improved features that definitely meet the needs and wants of professionals and non-professionals alike. This semi-pro digital SLR is Canon’s answer to increasing competition in the market. EOS 7D is relatively expensive but it is sure worth the price. Canon once again stays true to its promise of delivering robust digital SLRs as seen in the dust and moisture-resistant magnesium alloy body of EOS 7D.
The EOS 7D does not have a full-frame sensor unlike other single digit EOS digital SLRs but it still has a lot of features enthusiasts would find useful. Its viewfinder, 1.0X magnification and 100% coverage beats 50D’s 0.95X magnification and 95% coverage. It also has a 18 megapixels APS-C CMOS sensor, a 19-point AF system and a new shutter mechanism. The Canon EOS 7D is often described as an upgrade of the company’s EOS 50D due to its similarities in terms of size and quality. Looking at 7D’s new features, it proves to be better. Because of its dual DIGIC 4 processors, it can capture eight frames per second of continuous shooting as compared to EOS 50D’s continuous shooting speed of 6.3 frames per second.
Its custom modes compensate for its lack of scene modes. EOS 7D offers comfort to users by providing a better grip through an improved rubber-like patch. Users will also delight over its new LCD design and Quick menu button. It also offers convenience to users who are after quality audio with its stereo microphone jack. Like the two other EOS, the 7D can shoot full HD video at a crystal clear 1920x1080 resolution. Users will enjoy full manual exposure control, video resolution choice, and frame rate choice. Video length however is only up to 30 minutes. It is also better to use a tripod because holding the EOS 7D for a long period of time is no easy task. The EOS 7D delivers quality images. Continuous shooting is up to 8fps and you can expect no shutter lag. Its shutter speed is the same as the EOS 50D at 1/8000 – 30 sec.
On the other hand, the EOS 7D has a higher shutter durability with 150,000 cycles versus the EOS 50D’s 100,000 cycles. Both have a built-in flash and same flash modes but only the EOS 7D has a built-in wireless flash control with which it is capable of controlling up to three groups of four flashes each. Autofocus is also another area where the 7D shines. Similar to Canon’s other EOS cameras, the 7D comes with complete white balance options: auto, daylight, shade, cloudy, tungsten light, white fluorescent light, flash, custom and color temperature. The camera’s battery lasts for almost an hour and a half with continuous live view shooting usage. With no live view shooting but with 50% flash, you can take at least 800 shots. The EOS 7D, you can take the best motion shots. Also, it has a relatively good ISO noise. Being the best-featured Canon APS-C DSLR by far, the Canon EOS 7D is highly recommended for motion photographers, landscape pros and all photography professionals and enthusiasts in general.
