BlackBerry PlayBook 16GB Review
Take desktop mobility with you with the BlackBerry PlayBook 16GB. Blackberry has been known as a pioneer to the smartphone evolution. Now, they are playing catch up in the tablet race and are offering the PlayBook, a pretty good and decent tablet.
The BlackBerry PlayBook 16GB is not that much different from other PC tablets in the market today. However, it is a bit smaller in terms of size than other and more popular tablets out there like the iPad and Galaxy Tab. The PlayBook 16GB may be discontinued in favor of its 32 GB and 64 GB versions, as the market dictates, the tablet still packs some great and useful features for you to use, try and experience.
The BlackBerry PlayBook like its smartphone cousins runs on its own operating system or OS. And that this OS works smoothly in a tablet environment. The OS is said to be designed and professionally oriented so it’s no wonder that it can handle task after task well. It is responsive, intuitive and powerful on its own. It is not that great compared to other tablets but is still comparable to them. The OS of this tablet can handle multitasking tasks well. One good thing about this tablet and its OS is its onscreen keyboard. Like the OS in general, it is responsive and is well spaced. It also has a natural like feel due to the placements of some things like the numeric keypad. The OS comes with its own stock applications for emails, calendar and contact book. They all work and are effective for use especially when you are composing an email or setting up an appointment schedule.
You can even sync it to your desktop easily. Transferring files and moving around the tablet thru your PC is smooth and efficient. This tablet features a lack of buttons as all controls and navigation is done using the onscreen controls. Swiping in either top, bottom, left or right will lead you to different areas of the tablet, from apps to menus and more. Moving your fingers to operate the tablet works and that the tablet responds back well.
However, there are some flaws with its design as the power button, situated on the top of the tablet, is so small that you need to exert a lot of effort in your fingertip just in order to press it. It may also become a hassle as when the tablet does to sleep from inactivity; there is no other way to turn it back on except by this small, physical button.
The BlackBerry PlayBook 16GB measures over 5 inches tall and is 7.5 inches wide. It sports a small seven inch screen and is also 0.4 inch thick. It is also one of the lightest tablets in the market today as it is heavy in less than a pound. The tablet has a pixel resolution of over 1,024x600. The screen is bordered by stereo speaker grilles and that there is a 3 MP camera on top of the screen. The PlayBook also features a light sensor that adjusts screen brightness automatically. On the back of the tablet, lies a 5 MP camera that can take 1080p videos.
All in all, the BlackBerry PlayBook 16GB is a fast and powerful tablet PC and is comparable to other tablets as it also features WiFi capabilities, dual core processor and 1GB RAM.
