Apple uses the term 15-inch Retina Display when referring to devices with extra-high pixel density and resolution. Previously the 15-inch MBP offered only 1680 x 1050 units in terms of pixel density. The new 15.4-inch screen exhibits resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels. New Ivy Bridge processors from Intel, slimmer chassis, changed speaker system and revised cooling system all comprise features which distinguish the new model from regular MacBook Pro computers.

This computer has dedicated/integrated combination of graphics with Nvidia GeForce GT 650M and Intel GMA HD 4000. Build-to-Order (BTO) options, 768GB SSD or 16GB RAM is available for users seeking to improve the capacity of the notebook. The new MacBook Pro is available with HDMI and USB 3.0 ports and two Thunderbolt ports, with both Ethernet and FireWire only offered via an external adapter. It has a great design which conveys superb build quality and high-end aesthetics. The chassis is resistant to deformation, remaining rock-solid even under concentrated pressure. Retina model is slimmer and lighter when compared to the regular MacBook Pro. It is 18 millimeters and weighs roughly 2Kg. MacBook Air 13, which is wedge-like, has maximum thickness of approximately 17 millimeters, being only slimmer by thin margin.

The missing glass cover in essence contributes somewhat to the lower weight of then new Apple MacBook Pro Retina 15. The display lid has appreciable torsional integrity, while the hinge, hidden under black plastic, is found in the middle. It holds display in place and allows no back and forth rocking, being sufficiently firm.  The design is somewhat evolutionary, yet not a radical departure from past forms and the big apple logo still appears on display lid. The laptop’s chassis feels quite resilient, though it may not suit extreme outdoor use. It is commendable taking extra precaution when handling your MacBook Pro to avoid dings and scratches. Apple appears to have designed its chassis without recognizable weaknesses, with this 15-inch version being among the lightest and thinnest notebooks within its class.

Older Apple monitors or chargers require using a unique MagSafe adapter. Gigabit Ethernet as well as FireWire are on offer via special Thunderbolt adapter. Users have full transfer speed guaranteed unlike USB 2.0 adapters required for older MacBook Air designs.

With Two USB 3.0 ports plus a HDMI, it is reasonable to conclude that this computer includes all the ports needed by a user on daily basis. Even then, a third USB port could still have been helpful. All ports on this device are positioned well mostly for right-handed users and are located on both the right and left sections of the unit towards the back. One may use an external mouse without interference, however.
