Laptop Cases

Laptops often come with bags or cases. However, they are usually not that stylish or comfortable enough to carry around which is why owners resort to buying new cases for them. Ideally, a case should protect your notebook from all types of danger (uncluding those posed by other humans). But the reality is, most bags are specialized for a certain purpose which is why buyers should start at asking themselves what they really want from a laptop case.

Size

Of course, the size of the case is crucial. The best way to get the right size is to bring your laptop with you when scouting for them. Your device should fit snuggly into the notebook compartment so that it doesn’t shake too much when you are moving, thus, protecting the computer’s internal parts. The laptop case should also have sufficient padding for shock absorption.

However, size is not only limited to the actual laptop compartment, but the other pockets and compartments as well. This is specially true for business-oriented or office workers. They should also put into consideration the other things they have to bring on a daily basis such as paper files, mobile phones or iPod when deciding on the size of the bag.

Styles

Briefcase

The briefcase type is perfect for those who work in the office as it tends to radiate professionalism and class. It’s predominantly handheld, and is not designed for extended hours of carrying, which is why it’s highly recommended for those who ride their own car to work. Otherwise, its shape and holding mechanism just makes it a thief magnet.

Backpack

Backpack cases are best suited for people who commute and who always move around in short travels. Its two straps evenly distribute the weight of the gadget on both shoulders making it an easy load during long walks. It’s also one of the subtlest laptop cases because its shape won’t give away the contours of your device.

Messenger bag

This type is not recommended for people with heavy laptops simply because it doesn’t offer that much weight distribution and is therefor bad for someone’s posture. Style-wise however, it has a balance between class and casuality which makes it appropriate for street or office fashion. 

Rolling cases

Heavy travelers, especially those who take the plane often, will benefit most on the rolling case type. Because all of the weight is carried by the wheels, this is also suitable for heavier laptops and for additional load such as garments and other stuff. As users of this bag may need to spend time away from it in between flights, you can expect a wider variety of security features from this style.

Fabric

Laptop cases can be made from a combination of polyester and nylon. Nylon has natural resistance to molds and bacteria, polyester has flexibility and both have natural resistance to wear-and-tear. But what makes them even sturdier is how tight and densely they’re spun into threads.

High-end bags will most likely boast of its high-density fiber and will readily disclose the Denier rating (D) on brochures or tags included in the product. Good quality fiber usually has a 800D-Nylon or higher ratings just like in outdoor climbing sports bags and accessories; the toughest kind is ballistic or bulletproof nylon which has a rating of 1680D. Without the Denier rating however, one could just carefully examine how fine and smooth the fabric is woven.

Additional Features

Some brands will offer additional features to further protect your laptop. These include, but is not limited to, waterproofing gear for backpacks, self-healing zippers, locking mechanisms and other anti- theft features, and additional straps. These are great add-ons, but they should only be secondary preferences.
